[19 Feb 2019] - The Busan Metropolitan City (BMC) and the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) will enter into a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) on 20 Feb 2019, aimed at driving greater awareness of popular tourist destinations in both cities, and building stronger two-way tourism traffic.

Key officials will attend the ceremony at the Paradise Hotel Grand Ballroom, including Busan Vice Mayor for Economic Affairs Mr. Yoo Jae-soo and Mr. Yip Wei Kiat, Ambassador of the Republic of Singapore to the Republic of Korea. The agreement will be signed by Mr. Cho Young-tae, Director General of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the BMC and Mr. Chang Chee Pey, Assistant Chief Executive, International Group, STB.

The Memorandum of Cooperation spells out greater collaboration between the cities, ahead of the establishment of a direct flight route between Busan and Singapore. Both cities plan to establish and implement mutual cooperation in the following fields:

  • Promotional and marketing cooperation: Implement marketing activities for the promotion of destination awareness and tourism products in both Singapore and Busan. Both parties will provide mutual support to companies or organisations that undertake these efforts.

  • Regular tourism exchanges: Share best practices on tourism-related practices to improve the quality of tourism products and services in both cities.

"We are delighted to sign the MOC with STB and hope that it will increase the inflow of foreign tourists visiting Busan, and promote our tourism industry and the beauty of Busan," said Mr. Cho Young-tae, Director General of Culture, Sports and Tourism, BMC.

Mr. Chang Chee Pey, Assistant Chief Executive, International Group of STB, said, "The signing of the MOC between STB and BMC marks an important milestone in the promotion of tourism between our two countries. This will be the first amongst many activities that STB, along with our tourism stakeholders, will roll out progressively in Busan throughout the year. With this milestone set in place, both cities are looking ahead to forge a deeper friendship in time to come."
