This May, Asia Fashion Exchange (AFX) unveils a one-week style extravaganza that puts Singapore on the map as Asia's fashion capital.

With an array of exciting events under its banner, AFX brings together key fashion events — from a fashion festival to fashion tradeshow to thought-leadership and talent development programmes so that fashion industry leaders and insiders will have a chance to interact, network as well as learn more about the industry.

At the forefront of the celebration are Singapore Fashion Week and BLUEPRINT in Singapore.

Singapore Fashion Week (13 – 17 May 2015, Tent @ Ngee Ann City )

The flagship event for AFX, Singapore Fashion Week (SFW) 2015 is the eighth iteration of this consumer-centric fashion festival.

Adding star power to the weeklong festivities will be the opening show featuring fashion legend and President of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), Diane von Furstenberg whose iconic wrap dresses and signature prints have been worn by many of the world's most prominent women — from the First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama and the Duchess of Cambridge to A-list celebrities like Sarah Jessica Parker, Gwyneth Paltrow, Zoe Saldana and Miranda Kerr. Fashion designer Victoria Beckham will close AFX while Thai-American designer Thakoon will also be participating.

Among Singaporean designers, it's the turn of Singapore-based label Ong Shunmugam to wow the crowd this year. Designer Priscilla Shunmugam will showcase her latest collection on the runways of SFW. The young designer launched her first ready-to-wear collection in 2010 and focuses on layers of Asian aesthetic, textile and sartorial history in her creations. The label has received the Grand Award at the Design for Asian Awards 2013. Aside from Ong Shunmugam, ELOHIM and exhibit are also expected to show collections during SFW.

Aside from the glitz and glamour for which the event is known for, SFW broadens its scope this year to include thought leadership and industry development initiatives.

Fashion Futures. This year, SFW will be introducing a new talent support programme called Fashion Futures, which will provide young fashion designers a platform to showcase their collections to international retailers as well as opportunities to learn from key industry leaders and professionals.

SFW Fashion Talks Series. Also happening this year for the first time is the SFW Fashion Talk Series, a series of thought-leadership and industry talks organised in partnership with LASALLE College of the Arts. Fashion students, industry professionals and the public will have a chance to engage and interact with Diane von Furstenberg and Steven Kolb, CEO, CFDA as well as other industry heavyweights.
