Sporting events showcase Singapore as a well-rounded, active, and exciting tourism destination.

With the completion of the Sports Hub in 2014, Singapore has seen more top stature events complementing its exciting sports calendar, which includes world-class events such as the Formula 1® Singapore Grand Prix, the HSBC Women’s Championship, the Women's Tennis Association Championships (WTA) Singapore, and the International Champions Cup Singapore. The development of home-grown sporting events such as One FC and OCBC Cycle will further to add to the vibrancy of the ecosystem.

STB believes these exciting developments taking place in the sports industry will open up new business prospects to sports rights owners, sanctioning bodies, media companies and event organisers. The team works closely with these industry partners to anchor world class sporting events and explore possibilities of how Singapore can be an innovative launch pad into Asia.

Besides industry partners, STB's Sports Division also works very closely with other Divisions within STB and other government agencies to take a holistic approach to develop innovative and interesting concepts around world-class sporting events.

STB has been the lead government agency for the Formula 1® Singapore Grand Prix since the 2008 inaugural race. As the Formula 1® Singapore Grand Prix is a night race running on city-centre streets, STB works with race promoter, Singapore GP Pte Ltd, and various government agencies to execute a successful race weekend at the spectacular Marina Bay Circuit. STB also partners various tourism-related businesses across the retail, arts, dining, entertainment, hospitality, and MICE industries.

STB works closely with a variety of stakeholders ranging from owners of sporting properties, sports media businesses, venues, sponsors, promoters as well as other government agencies to develop and enable strategic products to strengthen their tourism appeal. It also partners the industry in new value creation for greater consumer experience through innovation and content development to increase the regional demand of sporting experiences in Singapore.

STB also curates a multi-faceted and vibrant lifestyle experience around the race known as the Grand Prix Season Singapore (GPSS). Beginning in the week leading up to the Formula 1® Singapore Grand Prix, GPSS sees the city pumping up the adrenaline with thrilling experiences in major tourism precincts, with high energy entertainment at Marina Bay, shopping extravaganzas at Orchard Road, and buzzing nightlife along the Singapore River. While Singapore excites all year round, during the Grand Prix Season the atmosphere is rip-roaring electric! For more information, please visit www.yoursingapore.com/gpss.
