About Tourism Cares and STB Americas’ Involvement

Tourism Cares is a non-profit organisation dedicated to the long-term survival of the travel and tourism industry. Since its inception, as a supporting foundation for United States Tour Operator Association (USTOA) in 1998, Tourism Cares’ mission is to unite the travel industry and be a catalyst of positive social, environmental, and economic impact for the people, local communities, and places of travel. It is dedicated to a thriving travel industry by advancing its positive social, environmental, and economic impact to help people and places thrive. They bring the ‘why’ and ‘how’ of meaningful travel to create actionable, positive change and sustainable solutions in communities around the world. 

Tourism Cares currently has over 160 members from all tourism segments, including major brands like Intrepid, Tauck, American Society of Travel Advisors, Delta Air Lines, AA Travel, TripAdvisor, Expedia and more. 

STB Americas became a member of Tourism Cares in 2024 and sees the membership as a natural extension of the sustainable and meaningful tourism journey that we are promoting in North America and globally. 

What is Meaningful Travel?

Meaningful travel ensures direct benefits for host communities, protects cultural and environmental assets, and connects guests with destinations in a deeper way. By coming together as a united industry, tourism can better serve the people and places of travel in an equitable and sustainable way. 

What is the Meaningful Travel Map?

It is a tool that directly connects the travel trade and sustainably minded visitors with authentic, community-led enterprises, products, services, accommodations, and tours.  In addition, the Meaningful Travel Map is a B2B tool that helps the travel trade and sustainably minded travellers easily source organisations making positive social and environmental impacts in destinations. 

This interactive global map directly connects travel professionals (such as tour operators, travel advisors, and suppliers) with sustainable, community-led enterprises, products, services, accommodations, and tours, creating a competitive advantage to the growing consumer demand of sustainable travel and providing direct impact on the people and places of travel.

Objectives
  • Raise awareness of the value that responsible and meaningful travel can have both on Singapore communities and on travelers. 
  • Connect tourism buyers (tour operators and travelers) directly to meaningful, impactful organizations, communities and experiences demanded by travelers. 

  • Enabling community-led experiences, products and tours to expand their reach globally. 

  • Impact organizations, dedicated to improving the local community and environment, such as social enterprises, non-profits and community-based tourism. 

  • Enhance visibility of Singapore of as one a social enterprise with local communities and experiences that impact the local people and communities.

STB Americas is inviting qualifying tourism and travel companies who are driving positive impact in the local community or the environment to be listed on the Meaningful Travel Map.

2. STB Europe is calling for interest from Singapore hotel industry stakeholders for an opportunity to work with Amadeus GDS. 

Background STB Europe has established a partnership with Amadeus - the GDS platform - to promote destination Singapore to European travellers.  
 
Objectives
  • Joint B2B promotion to drive European visitors to Singapore through the travel agent networks on GDS platform
  • To offer European travellers an incentive to stopover in Singapore
Details
  • STB Europe will facilitate introductions and conversations between Amadeus and Singapore hotel stakeholders 
  • Interested Singapore stakeholders can provide attractive rates for a stopover product (so 24 hrs – 48hrs length of stay) to travel agents through Amadeus  
  • STB will be promoting the destination via banner ad placements within the GDS with a call-to-action to click through to a landing page where Amadeus will host the hotel product deals
